Animal rights activists are sounding alarms as animal shelters across the country are being flooded with unwanted Shiba Inu dogs as Dogecoin continues to fall.
“We are seeing a crisis right now,” said Angela Martinez, director of the Sun Valley Animal Shelter in Gilbert, Arizona. “These dogs aren’t making anyone rich anymore, so people have to unload these depreciating assets.”
The popularity of Shiba Inus underwent a dramatic reversal this year as the price of Dogecoin rose to the $0.70’s and then fell after Elon Musk’s SNL appearance.
Some animal aid groups have put money into advertising the new “Shiba Inu Coin”, a new cryptocurrency that could be the key to saving the Shiba Inu dog breed.
“We are really banking on Shiba Inu Coin reaching $1 very soon,” said Don Breen, Director of the New York Dog Aid Foundation. “If it doesn’t, the Shiba breed will be the new shitcoin.”
