ABC has a surefire hit on its hands as it announced today the signing of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to host America’s Next IRS Commissioner. The reality show will feature Yellen putting a pool of hunky bachelors through a series of competitions in order to determine who has what it takes to collect taxes and administer the internal revenue code.
“If you’re after the 18-34 demographic, you need somebody like Janet Yellen to give people a reason to watch,” said ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich. “She’s smart, she’s sassy, and she really connects with Millennials and Zoomers.”
The announcement follows weeks of rumor and intrigue as the major networks jostled to sign Yellen, who becomes the first acting Treasury Secretary with a TV show since Larry Summers’s ill-fated stint as host of MTV’s Total Request Live in 2000.
The format of the show will follow the tried and true reality show formula of eliminating one contestant per week, with each week’s loser hearing Yellen’s catch phrase, “You’ve been deducted!” Contestants will engage in a variety of contests to prove their worth, such as corporate tax accounting, audit, and cooking a romantic dinner while shirtless. Filming begins next month at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley, CA.
In a statement released by her PR firm, Yellen said, “I’m so excited to be working with ABC to help optimize our revenue collection. America, don’t forget to tune in Wednesday nights starting this September!”
